‘Listen – don’t judge’

‘Listen – don’t judge’

Someone said this to me the other day, and it has been playing in my head ever since.

It was very good advice, not just because I aspire to become a journalist one day, but it’s also something I can and should use in life.

How many of us have had a conversation with someone, with having that person confide in us things that they would never tell anyone else, and not judge them?? Do we realize that the reason they are telling us their deep dark secrets is probably because they trust us and consider us to be a good friend?? And probably one way we can repay that trust is to not judge them or their decisions, and of course keep it to ourselves.

Is there a difference between judging and having an opinion?? I think so, a fine one, but yes there is- RESPECT. If we can respect someone’s choice and not ridicule it, there lies the difference. We cannot judge anyone for the way they think, for not having to live in the same circumstances; we may not understand their reasons.

I consider myself to be open and understanding, but I must confess, looking back now, I may have been guilty of crossing that fine line. A bigger mistake than that would be to actually continue to do so after I have realized it.

I guess today you learnt some important lessons of life. To listen, to not judge, to have a opinion but to not mix it up with judging people, to not ridicule someone’s choice and the most important of all, to respect. All of these are so very important lessons of life. These are some things that we learn as time goes by and as we make mistakes and learn from them. By you’re blog what I can make out is that you’ve obviously hurt someone or some people and let them down. Learn and move on. But I do hope child that you have acknowledged you’re mistake to that person/persons. Without apologizing and accepting responsibility to this person/these persons this lesson is incomplete. And that would be a true tragedy.
Hope this does not deter the joy you will get from blogging. Take this advice from someone who knows…

"Who do we fall.. so we can learn to pick ourselves up" - A line from one of my favorite movies..

Listen, but be careful when you're choosing how much to involve yourself.. atleast that' something I learnt from life.

not judging ppl....sigh.. thats something i feel so strongly about i cant even explain! as life goes by, i did realize that the reason we all end up misunderstanding one another or hurting one another was because a lot of times, n mostly without even our knowledge, we tend to ridicule the other person's descions, claiming our way to be the right way! but the point is, even if that person has not really done "right" (as subjective as that is!), he will learn from his own misatakes and in time realize what went wrong....all we can and should do is be there.. be right there when the person does encounter those realizations! (sigh.. i can write an entire blog entry on this!)
